The Overarching, Guiding Question The Chinese New Year is the biggest and most celebrated festival in China. There are other less known holidays celebrated in China. What do the holidays celebrated in China teach us about the Chinese people and their culture? |
|||||
The Process Most people in the United States have heard of the Chinese New Year. We have come to equate our understanding of the Chinese people on the basis of this holiday. There are many holidays celebrated in China that are not commonly known to Americans. Learning about those holidays will help us to better understand the richness of the Chinese culture. To help you gain a greater understanding of the people and the culture of China; you and your partners (or 2-3 other classmate) will work together as a Special Investigative Team to research Chinese Holidays/Festivals that are not well known to people outside of China. |

Creating Your Own Chinese Holiday/Festival After your team has finished learning about the different Chinese holiday/festivals, you will create your own Chinese holiday/festival using some common and unique components of the holidays you studied. Each team will study three holidays. Remember to help the members of your team. Since this is a group project, the stronger the team, the better the grade! Click on the holidays. Read about each holiday. Each team member is responsible for part of the information on the recording sheet. Using the Inspiration template each team member will record a different component of the holiday/festival. |
